Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases

History

The Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases (OICD) is one of the three constituent institutes of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), established with the university’s inception in December 2003. Originally founded as a TB sanatorium in 1939, the institute began as five cottages donated by the family of Mr. Deep Chand Ojha, a renowned philanthropist, to provide relief for TB patients. The Ayurvedic TB Relief Association expanded the facility to 65 huts in 1942. Between 1962 and 1967, the main hospital building was constructed, increasing the bed capacity to 350. In 1973, the facility was upgraded from a sanatorium to the Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases, as it is known today.
