Library

The foundation stone of Dow Medical College was laid down by Sir Dow Hough in 1944. With an imposing exterior, the Professor Muhammad Ali Shah Library Block is situated at the heart of Dow Medical College, and was built before partition around 1944 over an area of approximately 10,000 sq. ft. With an imposing exterior, the Professor Muhammad Ali Shah Library Block is situated at the heart of Dow Medical College, and was built before partition around 1944 over an area of approximately 10,000 sq. ft. The first ever librarian of DMC library was Syed Jalal ud Din Alvi who later became the chief librarian of US Council Library.

The Library building has been renovated three times since it was built, the lastly renovated in 2009. This building is over three stories tall and has a well-stocked souvenir shop along with the Moin Auditorium on the ground floor.

The main library, with the reference section and the archive section is located on the first floor, with about 27,000 books and different local and international scholarly journals. A well-furnished separate reading room for the faculty as well as for post graduate students. There is also a discussion room for group studies.

On the second floor there is a big well-furnished fully air-conditioned reading hall for students of all years with the capacity of 250 students. Read more

Library Rules

All the students, faculty & PGs of DUHS and the people of attached hospitals can use the library resources for reference and consultation.

Student ID: You will typically need a valid library card or student ID to access library resources, check out books, or use library computers.

Quiet: The library is a noise-free zone. Please observe silence in the library.

Library Hours: DUHS Libraries have specific operating hours. Make sure to be aware of these hours and plan your visits accordingly.

Respect Others: Maintain a respectful and courteous attitude toward other library users, both in terms of noise levels and shared spaces.

Cell Phones and Devices: Use cell phones and electronic devices quietly. Set your phone to silent mode while in the library.

Food and Drink: Drinks and eatables are not allowed in the library.

Collaboration and Group Work: If you’re working on group projects or collaborating with classmates, use the Group Study Room and respect the needs of other library users.

Copyright and Citations: Adhere to copyright laws and citation standards when using library resources for academic work to avoid plagiarism.

Library Orientation: Attend library orientations or workshops to learn about the resources and services available to students.

Lost Personal Things: Library is not responsible for any losses; please do not leave your belongings unattended.

Lost or Damaged Materials: Do not write, underline, mark or highlight in the library book. Library books are carefully examined on return and the borrower will be held responsible for the damage.
Books can only be borrowed by students, faculty, staff and PGs registered from DOW MEDICAL COLLEGE.
A book issued can be recalled whenever needed and must be returned immediately.

A well-furnished reading hall is located on the second floor of the library building, with a seating capacity of 250 students. All DMC students can access the reading hall by verifying their university cards and are required to maintain proper attendance. The reading hall is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

A separate, well-furnished study room for postgraduate students is located on the first floor of the library building, providing a calm and peaceful environment for study. All DMC postgraduate students can use this facility after verifying their identity cards. The PG room is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

There is collection of 27,000 books to circulate student’s faculty members and other staff can issue the books as per the policy of library for the period of time by giving their ID card.

Reference services are provided by library staff upon request. The library has a dedicated reference section where students can access a collection of resources related to their field of study. Additionally, we offer a virtual reference service called “Ask a Librarian,” where individuals can submit their queries via email to receive assistance.

DMC Library arranges an orientation program for the new students in the starting of every new academic year. This program helps students to aware library resources, services rules and regulations so that they can use library without any trouble.

Library provided a discussion room for your group assignments and discussions every students faculty and researchers and avail this service. Before avail the service the students should pre-book the discussion room through email at: dmc.library@duhs.edu.pk
