Swiss-Pakistan Workshop on “Genomic Medicine and Recessive Disorders”
Dow College of Biotechnology (DCoB), DUHS, successfully hosted the Swiss-Pakistan Workshop on “Genomic Medicine and Recessive Disorders” on November 26, 2024, at the Ojha Campus.
This collaborative event brought together leading experts from Switzerland and Pakistan to discuss cutting-edge research in genomic medicine, with a focus on the molecular genetics of human recessive disorders and their modeling in Zebrafish and Drosophila melanogaster.
The workshop featured distinguished speakers from renowned institutes:
. Prof. Stylianos E. Antonarakis, University of Geneva, Geneva
• Prof. Alexandre Reymond – Center for Integrative Genomics, Lausanne
• Dr. Federico Santoni – University Hospital of Lausanne, Lausanne
• Dr. Muhammad Ansar – Jules-Gonin Eye Hospital, Lausanne
• Dr. Ambrin Fatima – Aga Khan University, Karachi
• Prof. Mushtaq Hussain – Dow College of Biotechnology, DUHS
The speakers shared their invaluable insights into the molecular mechanisms of recessive genetic disorders and advancements in genomic technologies. Discussions also emphasized the integration of animal models, particularly Zebrafish and Drosophila melanogaster, to better understand genetic pathways and develop therapeutic interventions.
This workshop aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
• SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
• SDG 4: Quality Education
• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
