The Department of Dermatology at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) / Dr. Ruth K.M. Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, in collaboration with Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) and the Pakistan Association of Dermatologists (PAD), organized a highly engaging academic session titled “Leprosy: Early Detection, Better Tomorrow” on February 20, 2025. The session featured invited lectures from expert national and international speakers.

Dr. Humaira Talat, Head of the Department of Dermatology, was the Chief Organizer of the program. Dr. Alina Ahmed (Senior Registrar), Dr. Fareheen Ashfaq (Senior Registrar), and Dr. Asma Muzammil (Consultant Dermatologist) served as Co-organizers.

The session aimed to promote interactive discussions and knowledge sharing among faculty and trainees on the diagnosis, management, and latest advancements in leprosy.

The event featured insightful presentations by esteemed speakers, including:

– International Experts: Dr. Anil Fastenau, Dr. Bouke De Jong, and Dr. Epco Hasker

– National Experts: Dr. Mutaher Zia and Mr. Mervyn Francis Lobo

A live demonstration of clinical examination on leprosy patients by Dr. Mutaher Zia (Chief Leprologist, MALC) was the highlight of the session, as noted by postgraduate trainees.

The session received an overwhelming response, with participants expressing gratitude for the informative and engaging discussions. They also showed keen interest in future academic activities of a similar nature.
