The Department of Gynaecology & Obstetrics at Dow University Hospital (DUH) organized a one-day workshop on November 2, 2024 titled “The Role of Genetic Counselors in Antenatal Clinics”. The session featured Dr. Misbah Hanif, Ph.D. in Clinical Genetics, who delivered an engaging and informative lecture on the critical role of genetic counseling in antenatal care.
The session was chaired by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jahan Ara Hassan, who emphasized the growing importance of genetic counseling in antenatal care, particularly due to the rising number of cases with a history of genetic abnormalities in OBGYN clinics. She announced the upcoming launch of dedicated genetic counseling clinics at Dow University Hospital, Ojha Campus, to provide specialized support for expectant families.
Faculty and postgraduate trainees from the departments of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, and Family Medicine attended the session. Participants gained valuable insights into genetic diseases, patterns of inheritance, and the essential role of genetic counselors in clinical settings. The positive feedback from attendees highlighted the effectiveness of the workshop in fostering knowledge exchange and enhancing professional development.
