The Green Youth Movement Club-DUHS organized a one-day seminar titled “SGDs in Focus” on 26th Dec 2024, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sumbul Shamim, Focal Person of the GYM Club-DUHS. The program aimed to educate a young audience with in-depth perspectives on sustainable development from leaders working towards sustainable development initiatives in Pakistan.
The first speaker was Mr. Jawad Khan, Marine Manager at WWF Pakistan, who illuminated WWF Pakistan’s initiatives in marine conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and disaster risk reduction.
Dr. Muhammad Khawaja Hammad Uddin, Vice Principal of the School of Dental Care Professionals, was the second speaker of the day. He presented sustainable solutions in dental and medical research, and his expertise in dental biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine provided valuable insights.
The panelists were Ms. Shomaila Shamim, Gender Desk Specialist at Sindh Enterprise Development Fund; Ms. Alina Lakhani, Deputy Manager at TCF; and Ms. Raazia Anum, Sustainable Textile Ambassador at SPSC.
The event attracted 300 registrations, including faculty members, making it a resounding success. The Green Youth Movement Club’s initiative facilitated a meaningful discussion regarding leadership at all levels—government, business, and civil society—which is essential to advancing sustainability in Pakistan.
