A comprehensive Multi-Stakeholder Consultative Meeting was convened to address the critical issue of adolescent malnutrition in Sindh. This collaborative effort was jointly organized by the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), the Accelerated Action Plan for Reduction of Stunting and Malnutrition in Sindh (AAP), and UNICEF Pakistan, in partnership with PHC Global. The meeting took place on Thursday, 12th December, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The initiative was led by Professor Kashif Shafique, Principal, School of Public Health, Dow University of Health Sciences, who emphasized the importance of evidence generation to inform targeted interventions and policy decisions.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including public health experts, government representatives, researchers, and development partners, to deliberate on generating robust evidence on the underlying drivers and root causes of adolescent malnutrition in the province. The discussions aimed to identify data gaps, propose actionable research agendas, and outline collaborative strategies to tackle malnutrition effectively.
Special emphasis was placed on the multifaceted dimensions of malnutrition, including socio-economic factors, dietary practices, access to healthcare, and the impact of education and gender dynamics on adolescent health. The outcomes of this consultation are expected to inform policy recommendations, enhance program interventions, and strengthen multi-sectoral coordination for reducing malnutrition rates among adolescents in Sindh.
This initiative underscores the commitment of DUHS, AAP, UNICEF, and PHC Global to address this pressing public health challenge through evidence-based approaches, fostering partnerships, and driving sustainable solutions for the well-being of Sindh’s adolescent population.
