On 19th December 2022, students of Post-RN BSN, Semester IV, Dow Institute of Nursing and Midwifery, DUHS conducted a one-day seminar on “Hospital Waste Management” at Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Center. The seminar aimed to increase knowledge among nurses and housekeeping staff on hospital waste management. Chief guest, Ms. Rubina Hafeez (Principal & Acting Director, DIONAM) attended the seminar along with Mr. Nadeemuddin (Post RN BSN program coordinator), Dr. Abdul Wahid Rajput (Medical Superintendent, SIDH), Dr. Abdul Razzak (Additional Medical Superintendent, SIDH), Dr. Muneeba (Infectious diseases consultant, SIDH), Dr. Fizza Farooqui (HOD Microbiology, SIDH), Ms. Florance Urooj and Mr. Nelson Shad. Ms. Rubina Hafeez encouraged the students and administrative staff for supporting students in conducting successful seminar and highlighted the importance of educating staff on Hospital Waste Management as proper hospital waste management increases safety of employees and patients by reducing the potential to sustain a sharps injury potential, and also reduces the costs of direct and indirect treatment. Dr. Abdul Razzak also appreciated students for their performance during their Senior electives period and also appreciated on assessing the need, analyzing and then educating staff on proper Hospital Waste Management.
