DUHS Organizes Capacity-Building Workshop to Enhance Institutional Quality and Teaching Practices

February 6, 2025 – The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) hosted a Capacity-Building Workshop designed to strengthen institutional quality standards and teaching methodologies. The workshop brought together over 75 QEC managers and faculty members from various DUHS-affiliated colleges, reinforcing the university’s dedication to academic excellence and continuous improvement in education.

The event featured two thought-provoking sessions focused on modern teaching strategies and institutional performance evaluation.

*Session 1: Teaching as a Profession in Higher Education*

Led by Dr. Syed Ahsan Ali (Assistant Professor, Dow College of Pharmacy, and Resource Person for the NAHE Faculty Development Program), this session emphasized:

– Effective teaching techniques, incorporating interactive learning, student engagement strategies, and digital tools to enhance classroom experiences.

– Innovative approaches such as active learning and outcome-based education, aimed at improving student success and academic performance.

This session aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education, promoting advanced pedagogical practices for a more effective learning environment.

*Session 2: Institutionalizing Quality Culture & the RIPE Framework*

Mr. Muhammad Shahid (Principal and Assistant Professor, School of Nursing, Kharadar General Hospital) conducted this session, providing an in-depth look at:

– PSG-2023 (Pakistan Precepts, Standards, and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education)

– The role of quality circles in strengthening institutional governance

– Enhancing student participation in the Review of Institutional Performance Evaluation (RIPE) framework, ensuring a more inclusive and data-driven approach to quality assurance.

This initiative supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, promoting transparency and accountability in higher education management.

*QEC Director’s Remarks*

Speaking at the event, QEC Director Ms. Sanam Soomro highlighted the significant benefits of the capacity-building workshop, emphasizing that such initiatives equip faculty members and QEC managers with the latest tools and strategies to enhance educational quality. She stressed the importance of continuous professional development, structured institutional assessments, and a collective commitment from affiliated colleges to maintain and improve quality standards.

Ms. Soomro also underscored the role of faculty in fostering a student-centered learning environment, ensuring that academic programs remain aligned with global quality benchmarks and the evolving needs of higher education.
