About the Basic Biological Manufacturing Facility
Basic Biological Manufacturing Facility (BBMF) at DIABAR is dedicated to the production of ASV hyperimmunized plasma, including the development and formulation of poly-specific antivenom immunoglobulins targeting the Big 4 venomous snake species (Cobra, Krait, Saw-Scaled Viper, and Russell’s Viper). The BBMF facility comprises of 2 laboratories:
- Venom Collection and Processing Laboratory (VCPL)
- Plasma Collection and Processing Laboratory (PCPL)
The Venom Collection and Processing Laboratory (VCPL) is a key component of the project, serving as both a source for venom collection and processing for the provision of raw materials, and as a biobank for venom from the Big 4 snake species. The Plasma Collection and Processing Laboratory (PCPL) involves horse immunization, plasma separation, and comprehensive in-vivo and in-vitro quality control and stability testing, in compliance with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.
Our primary goal is to expand and sustain a mutually productive partnership with the local community by increasing the bulk production of ASV and hyperimmunized plasma. This local production of biologicals will serve as a reliable, uninterrupted source for treating snakebite cases, benefiting the community via cost-effective production of anti-snake venom products.
