CDE PROGRAM AND WORKSHOP ON ICON RESIN INFILTRATION TECHNIQUE
The Department of Operative Dentistry at Dow International Dental College on 18th February 2025 hosted an engaging Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program on Icon Resin Infiltration Technique. The event featured three expert lectures and a series of practical sessions, providing both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to over 85 participants, including house officers, residents, faculty members, and general practitioners from various organizations.
The honorable Registrar, Dow University of Health Sciences, Dr. Ashar Afaq graced the event as the Guest of Honour and applauded the efforts of the Department of Operative Dentistry for organizing a remarkable event and distributed mementos to the speakers. Principal, DIDC, Professor Aminah Sheikh also addressed the audience.
The program began with recitation of Holy Quran and a welcome note by the program director Prof. Farah Naz, it was followed by a series of three enriching lectures:
1. “Preserving Nature, Enhancing Smiles” by Dr. Syed Masood ul Hasan. Dr. Hasan focused on the importance of preserving the natural tooth structure and practicing minimally invasive dentistry (MID)
2. “From Extension for Prevention to Prevention of Extension” by Dr. Muhammad Amin. On the evolution of preventive dental techniques in caries management.
3. “Back to the Future with Icon Resin Infiltration Technique” by an invited international speaker, Dr. Ayesha Muzaffar, DDS. Dr. Muzaffar provided a deep dive into the future of minimally invasive procedures, discussing the practical applications and advantages of the Icon technique in modern dentistry.
The program also included a live demonstration held in the Out-Patient Department of Operative Dentistry, where the Icon technique was performed on a patient with a white spot lesion. This demonstration was broadcast via Zoom to the participants in the auditorium, allowing them to observe the procedure in real-time.
Later, a hands-on session was organized in the Phantom Laboratory. In this session, 20 participants had the opportunity to perform the Icon Resin Infiltration Technique on typodonts, applying their newly acquired knowledge in a practical setting. Meanwhile, another group of 20 participants observed the procedure, learning directly from the experienced instructors. Dr. Zainab, Lecturer, Operative highlighted the academic and clinical services of the department.
The Program was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Qaiser Ali Baig, vice principal, DIDC.
This comprehensive CDE program accredited with PDC for 5 CME hours, was supported by funding from the Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy T.I, offered a unique blend of theory, live demonstration, and practical training, equipping dental professionals with the tools and knowledge to effectively use the Icon Resin Infiltration Technique in clinical practice, a revolutionary method for non-invasive aesthetic restoration of teeth.
