Diphtheria is a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection caused by toxin-producing strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae. It primarily affects the respiratory system and spreads through respiratory droplets from an infected person when they cough, sneeze, or speak without a mask.

• Fever
• Sore throat
• Swollen neck (bull neck)
• Generalized weakness
• Grayish-white membrane in the nose, throat, or tonsils, which may bleed when touched
Complications: Diphtheria can damage the heart, lungs, kidneys, and nerves.
