General Pathology

The Department of Pathology at Dow International Dental College (DIDC) plays a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of diseases through the examination of tissues and body fluids. Pathology is an essential discipline that bridges basic science with clinical practice, offering insights into the diagnosis and mechanisms of disease, as well as contributing to research and treatment innovations.

Located at the Gulistan-e-Johar campus in Block 1, the department is equipped with modern laboratory facilities that support both undergraduate education and faculty-led research. Our laboratory is well-suited for tissue processing, diagnostic services, and research work, providing opportunities for both students and faculty to engage in advanced scientific discovery.

The primary objective of the pathology course is to introduce students to the study of diseases. Without a comprehensive understanding of the etiology (cause), pathogenesis (development), pathological anatomy, and pathophysiology of diseases, clinical medicine would merely involve memorizing symptoms and empirical treatments. These concepts are closely linked with other basic and clinical sciences being concurrently introduced. At the undergraduate level, the subjects of General Pathology and Microbiology enable students to identify the structural and functional causes of human diseases. The course thoroughly explores the core aspects of pathology, including the etiology, pathogenesis, and the morphological, molecular, and biochemical changes induced in cells and tissues, along with the clinical significance of these changes.

The department’s faculty consists of highly qualified professionals, including senior and junior faculty. Together, they deliver a comprehensive learning experience that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications to foster a deep understanding of pathology. Our faculty actively participates in teaching and mentoring, ensuring that students are well-prepared to meet the challenges of modern medical and dental practice.

Teaching in the department integrates small group discussions, hands-on practical sessions, and traditional lectures within a structured curriculum designed to promote interactive learning. Regular assessments and quizzes ensure continuous progress and reinforce essential concepts. Our ultimate goal is to provide students with a strong foundation in pathology, enabling them to understand disease mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels. We aim to cultivate not only knowledgeable professionals but also lifelong learners who will contribute meaningfully to the fields of research and healthcare in Pakistan and beyond.
